The problems with this one are legal rather than technical. The ‘encryption’ means nothing given that it’s necessarily the case that any reader software can decrypt it.

I haven’t looked into saving the pdf in a different form, but have modified common open source pdf software to allow copy and paste, and to export to html, just because it was convenient to do so for my own use. It’s only a few lines of code, and $50 is low pay, but probably adequate to get the job done without more pledges - if someone’s willing to actually distribute the result. I’m not going to do that.

anon42, as far as $50 being low pay goes – true. If you’re keen, why not try a bit of your own spreading-the-word for this project to get some more pledgers? (Though you wouldn’t have to wait till the pledged amount is what you want before you quote.)
