Any device (phone / modem / fax) connected with the land line will be connected after this device. To be more precise, a shared land line will be shared from the outgoing cable of this device. The incoming cable of the land line shall be connected to this device before any of the equipment.
The objective is to store / manage / retrieve log records of all incoming and outgoing calls / connections from the land line. It is obvious that it has to have an interface to configure it (log on / off, user management etc.) extract and erase data.
Obviously an embedded web server that serves the above requirements is an obvious solution.
Summary of features. 1. Sufficient memory capacity (say 1 or 2 gb) 2. embedded web server 3. usb / LAN connectivity that is available even while the device is live (busy logging!)
Adding this feature with a dsl modem is an immediate suggestion. It already has item 2 and LAN connectivity mentioned above.
