Project details

The idea is this. Much like FreeNAS, you burn a cd of this OS, do a little setting up, and you have a server that does almost everything you might need, per request:

  • Apache PHP MySQL/PostgreSQL Server

  • NAS server

  • FTP/SFTP server - Allow you to modify files in NAS or web server directories.

Should be based off either a linux distro, or BSD (pref FreeBSD). It seems to me that a FreeBSD fork could be easiest. FreeNAS is a FreeBSD fork, and so is M0n0wall and pfsense.

There should be a web control panel to manage and enable services, much like that of FreeNAS, M0n0wall or pfsense.

Just a note: Check out some of the EC2 instances for this type of thing, EC2 is a great do-anything server tool.
