In system administrations and operation, we sometimes receive so called health report mail, which report a system is OK or in particular condition. But a system is in trouble, it cannot send the mail. I want to know that the system have not sent, or I have not received the mail. i.e., mail me when no mail! I can pay attentions to received mail, but cannot to lack of mail. How about you?
set configuration:
Term last 24 hours From root@webserver.examle.com Subject .*Report Mail To me@example.com; Subject Web Server Trouble?
Term last 8:00-8:15 From: sysdba@db69.example.com Subject DB start Mail To dba@example.com; Subject DB in Trouble?
and so on…
It can be just a sctipt. It have to keep records of last received time of specified conditions, and check periodically if mails are received. It dont have to hook mails for me, I configure to send CC to the program.
