Project licenses

Who owns it

Each new project has a choice of various licenses. You must choose one of these to cover your project. These licenses define who has the rights to the project’s output:

Non-software: Software:

See our friendly license help on how this affects your project.

Non-software license

By choosing this licensing option you agree to make your product or service available (at a minimum) to all of the pledgers as required by the microPledge system and our conditions of use. If you choose to release the product in stages, you’ll make the evidence of progress available at each release and the full product or service available at the final release.

You confirm that in developing your project and releasing evidence of progress on the microPledge website, you do not breach any other licenses or laws.

This license is legally binding, and applies to all products or evidence released for this project on the microPledge website.

Feel free to add your own terms and conditions to your project page.

Open source

To choose this option your source code must either link (and be under) an OSI License or you must release your source code to the public domain. Wikipedia has more on open-source licenses.

By choosing this licensing option you agree to make your source code and binaries available on the microPledge website as required by the microPledge system and our conditions of use. More specifically, you agree to make them available to the pledgers at the various release stages of the project. You also agree that once the project is finished, you will make them available to the public at no cost, via the microPledge website.

By making these available to someone you are agreeing that he has a right to use and distribute them as he wants, and to copy them without modification. You also confirm that in developing your project you do not breach any other licenses or laws.

If your project is later shown to breach another law or license, microPledge cannot be regarded as a party to the breaches by making the project available to the pledgers via the microPledge website.

Closed source license

By choosing this licensing option you agree to make your executable program binaries available on the microPledge website as required by the microPledge system and our conditions of use. More specifically, you agree to make them available to the pledgers at the various release stages of the project. You also agree that once the project is finished, you will make them available to the public at no cost, via the microPledge website.

By making these binaries available to someone you are agreeing that he has a right to use and distribute them as he wants, and to copy them without modification. You also confirm that in developing your project you do not breach any other licenses or laws.

If your project is later shown to breach another law or license, microPledge cannot be regarded as a party to the breaches by making the project available to the pledgers via the microPledge website.

This license is legally binding, and applies to all binaries released for this project on the microPledge website.

Proprietary license

By choosing this licensing option you agree to make your executable program binaries available on the microPledge website as required by the microPledge system and our conditions of use. More specifically, you agree to make them available to the pledgers at the various release stages of the project, including the finished release.

By making these binaries available to someone you are agreeing that he has a right to use them as he wants, but not to copy them to others. You also confirm that in developing your project you do not breach any other licenses or laws.

If your project is later shown to breach another law or license, microPledge cannot be regarded as a party to the breaches by making the project available to the pledgers via the microPledge website.

Because you will likely retain ownership of the concept with this type of license, you may add further clauses to this license provided that they do not alter any of the existing terms of this license. In other words, you can’t alter anything under the heading “Proprietary License”.

This license is legally binding, and applies to all binaries released for this project on the microPledge website.
